Praia da Falésia: the Portuguese beach that conquered the world in 2026

Some beaches need no introduction. Praia da Falésia, in the Algarve, is one of them — and in 2026 the world confirmed it once again.

International recognition, twice over

This year, Falésia shone in two of the world's most respected beach rankings:

TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice 2026 — Praia da Falésia climbed to 5th place worldwide, the only Portuguese beach on the list. A return to the podium that won't surprise anyone who knows it: in 2024, this same ranking named it the best beach in the world.

The World's 50 Best Beaches 2026 — Falésia was the only Portuguese beach to enter the demanding global top 50, judged by more than a thousand travel professionals on criteria such as preservation, tranquillity and overall experience. In the same organisation's European ranking, Portugal also featured Praia do Seixal (Madeira) and Praia do Camilo (Algarve).

What makes Falésia so special?

Anyone arriving at Falésia immediately understands what captivates travellers from all over the world:

  • Six kilometres of golden sand — plenty of room to find your own spot, even at the height of summer.
  • Cliffs in fiery tones — the red and orange cliffs change colour with the light of day, creating a scenery unique in Europe.
  • Crystal-clear Atlantic waters — perfect for a refreshing dip on the hottest days.
  • Easy access and good beach facilities — wild beauty with comfort close at hand.

Intense sun calls for smart protection

One of Falésia's charms is also its biggest challenge: the Algarve sun. With a long, exposed stretch of sand, natural shade is virtually non-existent — and there are many hours of direct sunlight, especially between June and September.

That's where Sunsha comes in: the portable beach shade, handmade in Portugal, with UPF50+ protection and weighing around 1 kg. Designed to protect one person's face and head from direct sun, it sets up quickly and easily and fits in any beach bag. For the rest of your body, sunscreen and suitable clothing remain your best allies.

Coming soon: Sunsha Falésia 🧡

We couldn't let this distinction go unmarked. Portuguese beaches have always been our inspiration — Cascais, Arrábida, Guincho, Ericeira, Comporta, Sintra, Caparica, Nazaré and Sagres are already part of the family.

Now we're preparing to honour the beach the world has chosen: Sunsha Falésia is coming soon, inspired by the warm tones of the Algarve's most famous cliffs.

Stay tuned — subscribe to our newsletter and be the first to know when it arrives.
